Teorie polityki zagranicznej” [“Theories of Foreign Policy”] – a new publication by Tomasz Pugacewicz, PhD.

We are happy to inform that a new book by Tomasz Pugacewicz, PhD, titled “Teorie polityki zagranicznej. Perspektywa amerykańskiej analizy polityki zagranicznej” [Theories of Foreign Policy. The Perspective of American Analysis of Foreign Policy] (Krakow: Jagiellonian University Press, 2017) was published.

The monograph is a complex and critical study of foreign policy theories developed in the USA, seeking drivers on a domestic level and referred to as Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA). The discussed theoretical concepts can be used in practical analysis of current and historical US foreign policy. The publication does not focus on formal aspects, but on actual political processes.

It describes the decision-making processes concerning the president and presidential aides in the White House, as well as competition and lack of cooperation of bureaucratic institutions (such as the Department of State and the Department of Defence). The existing FPA theories were complemented by concepts taking into account the role of interest groups, citizens, media, and think tanks in shaping the US foreign policy. The author attempted to present highly abstract problems (e.g. related with philosophy of science) in a transparent and accessible manner.
